Round 3 / Day 25: One-on-One with Tony Horton - Fountain of Youth

As I've said before, I really dig the Fountain of Youth DVD. But at my innermost core, I'm a whiny bitch, so please allow me the pleasure of nitpicking about something about which I'm sure no one else gives a crap: The volume of the background music. With about one-third of the Fountain of Youth video left to go (when Tony starts doing slow-motion bicycle crunches), Jason Scheff's electronic keyboard spa muzak abruptly increases in volume until Tony's voice is all but drowned out. I never thought I'd say this, but I was straining to hear what Tony was saying, and kind of annoyed that I couldn't.

Round 2 / Day 25: Insanity Cardio Power & Resistance

Whenever Shaun T announces the start of a 30-second break, I've learned to not immediately take a swig of water. It takes me about ten seconds just to catch my breath; during this time, any attempt to swallow liquid results in me choking and spewing water and saliva all over the place. But by the time I can manage to take in (and hold down) a tiny sip, it's usually time to jump into the next exercise.

I wish there was enough time to drink during the middle of my sets, but I know I'd look ridiculous leaping around with this on my head:

P90X Day 25: Rest Day / TRX Suspension Training

I had a Tony-free workout this morning. Rather than luxuriate in a session of X Stretch, I did some lifting and resistance exercises with some of my pre-P90X tools: my dumbbell set and my TRX Suspension Trainer. For those who aren't familiar with the latter, here's a video demonstrating what it does:

Two years ago, after installing a TRX Suspension Trainer in my garage (by fastening an official TRX X-mount anchor to an exposed rafter, though I should have just gone with a plain old "U" bolt to save some bucks), I started using it regularly for body weight resistance exercises. It's great for developing core stability and balance; even a simple push-up can be made a lot more challenging with TRX because it forces you to balance while trying to perform the move.

Since starting P90X, I'd stopped using my TRX, but as soon as I picked it up again this morning, I was reminded of how much I enjoy using this thing. I'm thinking about incorporating the TRX into my P90X chest/arm/back sessions, especially when Tony calls for standard or military push-ups. Plus, I want to add to Ab Ripper X one particularly gut-wrenching TRX exercise that I've always loved (and hated): The TRX Atomic Push-up.
