Monday's Workout

I woke up without a dry, sore throat today for the first time in a month. Did I have some weird infection? Possibly. Should I have gone to the doctor weeks ago? Probably. Am I an idiot? Most definitely.

But whatevs. It's gone now, which means I can stop grossing out my fellow 5 a.m. classmates with my phlegmy hacking and overall disgustingness.

The photo above hints at today's WOD, but to keep from totally spoiling the surprise for folks attending this evening's classes at CrossFit Palo Alto, I'm hiding the workout description behind the jump...

Strength Skill:
I can power clean up to my bodyweight, but it's ugly. Really, really ugly. I need to check my ego and make 'em prettier before I try to stack on more plates.

Metcon:

For time:
  • 800-meter run
  • 50 kettlebell swings (70/53)
  • 50 wallball shots (20/14)
I was thisclose to going RXed today, but rather than using the 70-pound kettlebell, I went with the new 62-pounder. (I'm not suicidal.) It took a couple of swings for me to generate the force and momentum to get the KB overhead, but once I got into the groove, I was surprised to find that it wasn't much more difficult than swinging the 53-pound kettlebell. Still, every time I set it down, it was tough and time-consuming to get it up and moving again.

My legs were toast after the running and swinging, and my wallballs suffered as a result. The first 15 reps were fine, but then I hit the wall (HA! PUNNY!) and had to break up the rest into mini-sets of 5.

Remember when I said that I no longer suck at wallballs? I was wrong.

Result: 9:34.
